Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

When Jesus met Mary in John 20:17, He had just risen from the dead and had not yet ascended to the Father. When He appeared to the women again “as they went to tell his disciples“, He had already ascended to the Father and come back down again.
