I Kings 15:8
And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah. And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.
I Kings 15:1-2, 9-10
Abijam was the father of Asa. Maachah was the grandmother of Asa (e.g., “father” sometimes refers to patriarch in the Bible). Although a grandmother, she may have been referenced because of the power she had over the kingdom, as Asa had to remove her from being queen because of her idolatry. 1
