The law of conservation of energy in general states that energy can be neither created nor destroyed (it can change forms, as when a fire changes logs to heat). This implies that the universe’s energy and matter could not have sprung into existence, but rather needed a Creator. The other alternative is that the universe’s matter is eternal, but this requires faith and also violates the second law of thermodynamics.
